Online Security Information

New advances in security technology are happening daily, and Lake City Bank is constantly evaluating its security architecture to ensure that it provides the highest level of privacy and safety for our banking clients. These are some of the many measures we take to ensure a secure online banking environment:

Identity Theft: How to Protect Yourself

Identity theft is increasing. More and more people are becoming victims of fraudulent measures designed to gain access to their personal information. Lake City Bank is committed to helping its clients maintain their personal identification information. Please read the following information to learn about ways to avoid these identity theft schemes:

128-bit Browser Encryption
In order to access the Internet Banking product on Lake City Bank's Web site, your computer must run 128-bit encryption on either Netscape 6.2 or Internet Explorer 5.X or higher. Software using 128-bit encryption is roughly 300,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 times stronger than 40-bit encryption.

If your browser does not have 128-bit encryption, please take the steps outlined below in order to continue uninterrupted access to Internet banking. (Note: The U. S. government restricts the use of 128-bit encryption to citizens and permanent residents of the United States and Canada. Browsers that use 128-bit encryption may only be downloaded to locations in the United States and Canada.)

Session Time-Out Feature
Logging off and clicking the "X" are not the same thing.

It is important to remember to click "Log Off" each time you finish an internet banking session. Just clicking the "X" to close your browser leaves your session open for tampering. Our session time out feature will close your session after 5 minutes of inactivity. This will also help protect you in case you are pulled away from the computer in mid-session. If your session does time out, you will need to log back in to continue.

Internal Procedures and Your Responsibilities
Strict internal procedures are in place at Lake City Bank.

Customers have their own set of responsibilities in providing security for their Internet bank account. Passwords must be kept secret. Users should make sure that no one is physically watching as passwords are entered. It is important to remember to exit the browser when leaving the computer.

If your PC is unattended with the browser running and a valid user name and password cached, anyone can gain access to the account. Users should also use precautions to keep computers clean and free from viruses that could be used to capture password keystrokes.

Mutual Authentication Security Solution
What is it?

Mutual Authentication Security Solution provides you added safety by helping ensure that only you can access your Personal Internet Banking account.

This security feature adds a layer of protection to your Personal Internet Banking account by letting you know you?re at our official website, and letting us know it?s really you attempting to access your account. You know you?re at our official website when you see your personal security image and caption. We know it is really you by identifying the computer you are using to access your account. If we don?t recognize your computer, we?ll ask a question only you should know the answer to, in order to verify your identity.

Identity Theft: How to Protect Yourself

Prevention
The best protection you provide for yourself is to never give out personal information over the internet. Lake City Bank will never ask you for your internet password. In fact, to safeguard your internet banking access, Lake City Bank employees are unable to access any password information. It is not recorded on our system anywhere our employees can access. If you ever had to call in and get your password reset, our One-Call Center would issue you a new temporary password that you would need to change as soon as you used it to log in. If you ever had a need to call our One-Call Center your identification and account authorization would be confirmed before any information would be given out. Personal identity privacy is a major concern that Lake City Bank takes very seriously.

What to do if you suspect you have been a victim of ID Theft
The Lake City Bank One-Call Center (888-522-2265) can assist you with monitoring your accounts for suspicious activity. If you feel that your identification may have been used without your authorization, contact the One-Call Center. You will also need to contact all three major Credit Bureaus to report the unauthorized access. The contact information for the three major credit bureaus is provided below.

  • Experian - 888-397-3742
  • Equifax - 888-766-0008
  • Transunion - 800-916-8800

It is a good idea to check your own credit report at least once a year, not just before obtaining a loan. Old accounts you may have forgotten about may be left open and used by fraudulent individuals. It is also possible to correct errors you uncover on your credit history.

Email Fraud and "Phishing"
"Phishing" is a growing form of Identity Theft where the victim is sent an email requesting personal information. This message often appears to be coming from an authentic source (a credit card company, a bank, even e-bay) and asks the victim to reply to the message with personal account data (i.e. Social Security numbers, login and password information, account numbers) in order to "update their files." NEVER respond to these kinds of messages. Always contact the purported company via alternative means like a phone call to verify the authenticity of the message. Lake City Bank will never ask you for your personal information over the internet. Please report any phishing attempts you receive that appear to come from Lake City Bank to your nearest branch location or call our One-Call Center (888-522-2265).
