Romance Scam

Anne found herself caught up in an online relationship that seemed too good to be true. As she grew closer to her virtual love interest, the two spent lots of time communicating over the internet.

One day, her new friend asked Anne to wire him a significant amount of money and insisted on keeping it a secret. Anne didn’t want to believe that her romantic partner was a scammer, but she was very suspicious. Instead of complying, Anne decided to investigate further.

She researched romance scams, uncovering stories of innocent victims falling prey to manipulative schemes.

Anne called the One Call Center at (888) 522-2265 to explain the situation and confirm her suspicions. Unfortunately, she was correct.

With newfound clarity, Anne cut contact with the scammer, refusing to become a victim.

Anne’s quick research and call to the bank shielded her from financial harm and additional emotional entanglement.

Lake City Bank Vice President, Bank Secrecy Act Officer and Client Protection Services Manager, Amanda Longmire said, “Anne did absolutely the right thing by contacting us with her suspicions. This is undoubtedly a typical scam that the bank has seen often. And, unfortunately, most others in her situation do not reach out until it is too late. Please never hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.”

When in doubt, call the One Call Center at (888) 522-2265.
