Scammers Posing as the FBI

Cameron received an unexpected and concerning call from someone claiming to be an FBI agent, alleging that Cameron was under investigation. To avoid imminent arrest, the caller urged Cameron to disclose his banking information immediately. He certainly did not want to be arrested, and if the FBI was calling it had to be serious, right?

Remaining level headed, Cameron remembered sharing personal banking information with an untrusted source definitely puts your identity and bank accounts at risk. Refusing to be intimidated, Cameron announced that he would independently verify the authenticity of the call. The scammer grew agitated, reminding Cameron that his time to avoid arrest was running out.

Cameron hung up and promptly called the One Call Center at (888) 522-2265 to speak with Lake City Bank. He reported the fraudulent call, providing a detailed account of the scammer’s tactics.

Cameron’s experience served as a stark reminder to exercise vigilance no matter how convincing a scammer appears to be.

The Lake City Bank One Call Center manager said, “Just like Lake City Bank, the FBI would never call and request personal banking information. If the caller gets agitated and is trying to rush you, that’s a BIG red flag. Anyone legit, will appreciate you taking the time to verify the request.”

When in doubt, call the One Call Center at (888) 522-2265.
