The Great Depression

Egg Breakfast

Which came first, the chicken or the egg? The answer to the age-old question is obvious: the egg—or, more accurately, the egg breakfast!

In 1935, Lake City Bank hosted the Egg Banquet, a precursor to the Annual Egg Breakfast that would follow decades later. Hobart Creighton, founder of Creighton Brothers egg farm, served as toastmaster for the event. In addition to a meal of fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy, guests enjoyed a concert, other entertainment and an awards program.

In 1970, the event was reintroduced as the Annual Egg Breakfast. From its earliest days, Lake City Bank has looked for creative and meaningful ways to support a community known as the “Egg Basket of the Midwest.”
